II Task: Imagine that you are planning to buy a new camera. You see one advertised in a magazine. Write a letter to the shop asking for mor information. Include this information: write where you saw the advert, and why you are writing; explain what you need the camera for; ask your questions for more details.
Write 35-45 words on your answer sheet.
Answer: I am writing in response to your advertisement in July’s issue of "TeenTime” magazine concerning new cameras selling.  I would like to buy a new digital canon camera for taking general pictures in the nature and indoors. It must be a multifunctional, convenient, reliable camera at a reasonable price. I am particularly interested in Canon EOS 60D Model on your price list. I wonder how many pixels it has. I would also like to get more precise characteristics of the zoom. Finally I would like to know in what time it can be delivered. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Sincerely,  Peter
III Task: Talk about the things that you used to do in your childhood but don’t do now. Include this information: what activities you used to like/dislike doing; what you used to wear; what books you like reading. Answer: When I was a child I used to do a lot of things that I don’t do now. First of all it concerns the food I used to eat. Children don’t have much choice. As a rule they have to eat the food their parents consider to be healthy and useful for little children. I hated my everyday porridge and milk soup. Now I can eat whatever I want and whenever I want. In my childhood I used to eat 4 times a day and my parents didn’t allow me to have a bite between the meals. I also used to wear all this clothes my parents consider to be smart and lovely. And I had to be very clean and tidy. In winter I used to wear warm sweaters and trousers, and scarves and mittens and warm hats – and I often felt really stuffy in all this outfit! Now I prefer to wear jeans and sweatshirts in winter and T-shirts in summer. I like convenient sporty clothes.
As for my daily routine, I also used to obey some rules. For example I  used to go to bed at 9 o’clock sharp. It was a real torture for me! And I really hate this day nap in the kindergarten! But I like the games we used to play when we were kids. If the weather was good we spent a lot of time in the yard and played hide-and seek, hopscotch, tags and a lot of others. When we came back home we often were dirty, hot, exhausted, but really happy. I also used to play in the sandpit or ride my funny orange bike. Sometimes my parents took me to a kid’s café or McDonald’s and I enjoyed eating ice-cream and jelly.
And of course I loved my weekends. I could sleep as long as I wished and  nobody came and said: "Get up! You have to tidy up your room and clean the carpets and wash up!” Very often my parents took me to my granny who lives in a village. It was really wonderful there, especially in summer, when a lot of children came to their grandparents. There is a river near the village and a pine forest, and we could spend the whole day swimming and paddling and walking in the forest. I also liked the moments in the evening when I was in bed and my mom came with a book of fairy tales and sat down by the bed and read it to me. When I learnt to read myself I read nearly all the fairy tales and all the famous children books, like "Peter Pen”, "Mary Poppins”, "Winnie the Pooh” and many others. By now my tastes have differed of course. I prefer detective stories of national and foreign writes: Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle, Alexandra Marinina. Of course, I don’t play with all those toys I used to play when I was a child. Some years ago I gave them to my little nephew. Now I’m busy with my school and sport club. I spend a lot of time surfing the Internet or hanging out with my friends. But I still like to visit my granny and the moments I can spend with my family.

II Task: write an email to your pen friend about an important school event. Include this information: an appropriate greeting; the news about the school event; an appropriate closing.
Write 35-45 words on your answer sheet.
Answer:  Hi buddy! Sorry for the long silence – you know, I’ve been as busy as a bee with all my exams and the staff like that. But now all the troubles are over and on Friday we will have the prom. It is going to be a really great but a bit sad event! We will gather together with all our classmates, teachers and parents in our assembly hall for the last time to get our certificates and say goodbye to each other.
Now girls are busy with getting their hair and make-up done and trying on their gorgeous dresses. And boys are helping to decorate the assembly hall with streamers, balloons and funny posters. We have even invited television reporters to shoot a news episode about the prom. You can also read an article about it in the local newspaper.Next time I’ll send you the photos and tell how it went.
Write me back. Bye, -
III Task:talk about the magazine you have read recently. Include this information: what sort of magazine it is; what it is about; why you choose it; what you like/dislike about it.
Answer: Nowadays people are reading periodicals less and less. Their place in our life has been replaced by the Internet and TV. There you can find various information on any topic you want. You can even watch some burning event on line. But we still buy magazines and there are some reasons why we do this: first of all you don’t need any special equipment, electricity or charged batteries to read a magazine; secondly you can take it everywhere; to school, to the trip, to the picnic; thirdly, they are much cheaper and consequently much mire available, that electronic gadgets.
My fovourite magazine is "Telescope”. I buy a new issue every Thursday and it costs only 5 hryvnias. But the prise isn’t the only reason why I buy it.This is a youth entertaining magazine and the staff are young intelligent journalists with a very peculiar sense of humour. There are a lot of interesting topics they write about and everyone can choose what they want: celebrities’ gossips, film reviews, fashion advice, horoscopes and crosswords. There is also a small problem page where a professional psychologist gives advice to young people who write about their problems. Since many of us have the similar problems, the advice can help not only those who write about them. The TV programme is also very useful. You can arrange your schedule for the week taking into consideration your favourite sport events, series or shows.
The only thing I dislike about the magazine is too much ads in it. Sometimes it takes nearly the half of the magazines.
If you want to read a good magazine at a reasonable price, I would recommend you "Telescope”
Buy it and you will never regret.

II Task: Write an email to a friend telling him/her about your impressions of celebrating New Year’s day. Include this information: where and with whom you celebrated the event; the entertainment you had; what you liked most. Write 35-45 words on your answer sheet. Answer: Hi buddy! I would like to share my impressions of celebrating New Year’s Day. I and my friends arranged a party at our local café. The hall was brightly decorated with streamers, balloons, garlands and lights. There was even a disco ball there! Of course, there was a beautiful Christmas tree in the middle of the hall.
This café is famous with its specialties, so we are a lot of really delicious things and even drank a little champaigne!  We danced a lot, sang karaoke songs and took part in the Best New Year show which was a part of club’s programme. Everyone enjoyed the music, the food and the concert programme. We left for homes only at 4 a.m.! I am sending you some photos – I hope you can feel the spirit of the feast. Tell me please how you celebrated New Year’s day. Looking forward to your answer. Best wishes -
III Task: imagine that you are going to spend a month in the USA on an ESL course. Give the information to the family you are going to stay with. Include the following: general personal details; say something about your city/town/village and your country; say something about your hobbies and interests.
Answer: Good morning, my name is …. and I’m a student of the 9th form. I’m going to give a self-presentation and tell you about myself, my family, my hometown and my hobbies and interests. I come from Ukraine. It is the biggest country in Europe with the total area of 244.000 km. it gained its independence only 20 year ago but the history of the country is long and glorious. We have a lot of ancient beautiful cities, various and picturesque landscape and nice climate which make the country attractive to thousands of tourists who come there every year. I live in Chernihiv. It is and administrative, political and economic center of Chernihiv Region, or, as we call it, oblast. The city is situated in the north-western part of Ukraine, 150 km from Kyiv, the capital of our country, on the right bank of the Desna river. It is
interesting to mention that the Slavonic word "Desna” means "right”,  because the Desna is a right tribute of the Dnieper, the main river of Ukraine and the third longest river in Europe. According to the legends the city derives its name from prince Chorny, an ancient ruler of the city and its daughter, princess Charna, or from dark ( which means "chorny” in Ukrainian) forests which surrounded the city in those times. Chernihiv is one of the most ancient cities of the country, it is 1 300 years old, that’s why there are a lot of historic landmarks there. 5 of 25 Ukrainian historic monuments included in the "World Treasures’ List” by UNESCO are located in Chernihiv. The most popular tourist attractions in the city is Val or Rampart – the former citadel of Chernihiv princes. There you can see a magnificent cathedral of Transfiguration of our Savior and a cathedral of St Borys and Gleg – both dates back to the 11th century. At the entrance to the city on a hill there is a beautiful church of St Catherine, which considers to be a visiting card of Chernihiv. On the Rampart you can also see 12 cannons – they were presented to the city by the first Russian emperor Peter the First after his victory over the Swedish army at the beginning of 18th century. Another place of interest is the Boldin hill. "Bold” means "An oak” in Slavonic language and the oak was a sacred tree to the Slavs in pre-christian times. I know that in England the oak was also worshipped by the druids. There are still some oaks on the Boldin Hill, but the main attraction of the place is St Antony’s Caves – an ancient cave monastery that is older that famous Kyiv- Pechersk Lavra. Chernihiv is one of the greenest city of Ukraine – more than 30 sq m of greenery allotted to each resident. The city manages to combine its ancient glory with tense and hectic rhythm of modern life. I really wish everybody could come and enjoy the beauty of my native city. And now some words about my family and my hobby…

II Task: imagine that you are having a fantastic holiday. Write a postcard to a friend back home. Tell him/her about: how you got to the place; the weather; the accommodation; how you are spending your time. Write 35-45 words on your answer sheet.
Answer: Hi buddy! I’m having the most fantastic holidays I have ever had! You know that we left for the seaside last Monday. So here we are, in Yalta. As we had booked the tickets in advance we had no problem with the train to Simferopol, and then we took that funny trolleybus to Yalta. We are staying at Perlyna Hotel, it is near the sea and it takes us only 5 minutes to get to the beach. The suit is very comfortable, with a living-room, a bedroom, a bathroom and a large balcony. There is even a satellite TV in the suit, but, frankly speaking, we just have no time to watch it.
The weather is fantastic and we are spending the whole day on the beach. At night we are hanging out at the discos and night clubs.
I’ve taken a lot of photos and going to show them all when we come back. We are planning to spend here 2 more weeks. I’ve bought a small souvenir for you.
See you in 2 weeks. Bye, -
III Task: many pupils participate in clubs and sections after school. Which activities do you participate in? which after-school activities are important for pupils? Why? What is your favourite after-school activity? Answer:
In our school there a lot of after-school activities you can participate in. we have different sport sections, various clubs and societies which you can join after lessons.
I am interested in history and besides History is a compulsory subject we have to take an exam at, when we graduate from school. So I go to the EuroClub meetings, that takes place once a week in our school. Here we learn a lot of interesting facts about the history of European Union, of other European countries, about the international links and cooperation of Ukraine. We also watch some videos, meet with different famous or interesting people from our country and abroad and take part in different events that take place in our school and in the city. Our EuroClub was organized 10 years ago and have already had a lot of interesting and important events. For example, last year we took part in the city Day of Europe, which was held in may on the central square. We had to prepare a presentation of a European country and we chose Norway. While making the presentation we learnt a lot of interesting facts and information about this country. It was really exciting! I think that such kind of activity is very important for us, because it helps us to develop a teambuilding spirit, teaches us to work and have fun together and to reach the goals we have put. It is not only useful and educational, but also funny and exciting. As the Englishmen say "All work and no fun makes Jack a dull boy”
However no matter how busy we are at school or after-school activities, we shouldn’t forget that the most important thing in our life is our family. We must help our parents as much as we can and do the house chores carefully and without quarells. It is what modern society is lacking now.
But I am sure that this is the thing that inspires people and helps them to go through all the hardships of life – the feeling that their family will always support them, and that they will always have a place where they are waited for with love and care.
I also go to the dance club/ sport section. I think that our mental health depends on our physical condition. As the latin proverb goes "A sound mind in a sound body”. In modern society we need sport to keep our bodies fit and our minds clear.
